If you have looked at lots of Internet sites, you have probably encountered some error message every now and then. An error could take place in case the web hosting server can't process a request (Error 400), if you need to log in so as to see some content and you haven't done so (Error 401), if you are not permitted to access some webpage (Error 403) or if a link leads to a file which is not on the web server (Error 404). Encountering this kind of messages can sometimes be irritating as the pages have nothing in common with the actual website. That’s why some hosting companies permit you to use your own error pages which will match the style of your own Internet site and that can have any content that you'd like - information why the error has appeared, a suggestion what you can do or even some amusing comment. This sort of function will help you keep the visitor on the website regardless of the error or the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Hosting

You can set up custom made error pages for each of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all hosting package that we provide, so as soon as you log in to the Hepsia CP and navigate to the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that"ll appear, you may select the type of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a typical Apache web server page or a custom one. For the last mentioned alternative, you will need to specify the URL to the page, so when you use custom pages, you must upload the files in your website hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file positioned inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The exact syntax can be found in our Knowledge Base, so that you can use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of the semi-dedicated servers that we offer support tailor-made error pages and it will not take more than a few clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this feature. The option can be found in the Hosted Domains section of your CP in which you'll have to type in the links to the custom-made files via very simple drop-down menus and a user-friendly interface. Keep in mind, you have to upload them to your account before that. In case you don't need to use this function at some point, you can easily deactivate it just as quickly and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable if your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to allow the custom error pages. The file has to have a specific line of code and a link for every error type and you can easily discover an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
